Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 Review

Moved into a larger place recently and decided that having a robot vacuum makes more sense now. I didn’t want to spend a ton on all the latest features that I did not need – like mops, self cleaning, latest LIDAR tech. I just wanted something simple with a large battery capacity (needs to clean an area of 1200sqft!).

Landed back with the Xiaomi range of products as it was the ecosystem I was most familiar with, and I knew from the get go that it shouldn’t be costing an arm and a leg.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 blends power, intelligence, and a sleek, compact design to deliver a top-tier cleaning experience without breaking the bank. Its standout feature is the 5,000 Pa suction, supported by three selectable modes—Silent, Standard, and Turbo—which effortlessly handles dust, debris across various floor types . I had tiles and vinyl at home so that ticks the box.

One of the S20’s strongest assets is its dual-function vacuum and mop system. It houses a 400 mL dustbin and a 270 mL water reservoir, allowing simultaneous dry and wet cleaning via zigzag vacuum routes and Y-shaped mop motions . I don’t need the mopping feature so I don’t attach the mop but it’s there should I ever need it. So far, it seems to do a pretty good job mapping my home and cleaning it efficiently.

Navigation is confidently guided by an LDS LiDAR mapping system, which builds detailed home maps, enables efficient route planning, and lets you set no-go zones and virtual walls through the Mi Home app . While collisions are rare, it may occasionally bump into low-profile objects if zones aren’t set properly .

Noise levels vary by mode: Turbo offers the deepest clean but sounds like a traditional vacuum and is best run when you’re out—but turbo mode ensures outstanding results. In quieter modes, it operates unobtrusively. I let mine run at 9am daily when everyone is out of the house.

The 3.5 kg, 325 mm-wide runner is compact enough to fit under most furniture  and delivers reliable carpet navigation—even over thick rugs. Battery capacity is rated at 2,900 mAh (nominal 3,200 mAh), offering solid runtime, this is what I was looking for when selecting a robot vacuum because it needs to be able to clean the whole house is a single charge – so far I think it exceeds my expectations. It should be able to clean twice over in a single charge!

On the downside, corner-cleaning is also slightly imperfect due to side brush reach limitations.

From my experience, the Xiaomi S20 offers exceptional value: powerful suction, hybrid vacuum-and-mop functionality, smart LiDAR navigation, and app control—all bundled in a compact, well-rounded package. It’s ideal for daily maintenance, especially for homes with mixed floors. Just remember to prep floors by clearing obstructions and mapping no-mop zones.
